There was a discussion that lead for some time in advance of using Flash and HTML5 Canvas, which was pretty intense when it became clear that Apple would not support A Flash in its mobile devices. Canvas with major sites of slow implementation, the constant updates from browsers (IE ones excepted) and the growing popularity of HTML5 discussions are still ongoing.

The use of canvas still needs to take off, now is still trial to browser limitations and the lack of a comprehensive resource for the code, and tutorials.
